Fasteners Materials

Our standard fasteners are available in a wide range of metallic and non-metallic materials to suit different applications. Some of the fastener materials we offer include:

Aluminum

Aluminum is a lightweight and soft material with inherent corrosion resistance. This latter quality ensures it remains durable in corrosive environments even when the surface has nicks or scratches. Alloying it with other elements, such as copper, iron, magnesium, silicon, and zinc, enhances its strength and melting point, making it suitable for use in the manufacture of fasteners.

Brass

Brass is a copper-zinc alloy that demonstrates many advantageous properties, such as corrosion resistance and electrical conductivity. However, due to its material softness, it is primarily used for fasteners intended for aesthetic purposes.

Bronze

Bronze—an alloy of copper, tin, and zinc—offers greater corrosion resistance than stainless steel and higher strength than brass, making it ideal for use in marine environments for boat reconstruction and refastening. Due to its distinct color, it is also employed for aesthetic purposes in fine woodworking applications. The main disadvantage of the material is its high cost.

Stainless Steel

Stainless steel is an alloy of low-carbon steel and chromium. The addition of chromium gives the material its characteristic corrosion resistance, which remains even when the item is scratched or nicked during installation or use.

Some of the fasteners that are regularly constructed using stainless steel include anchors, nuts, pins, rivets, screws, and washers. While they may be stronger than comparable fasteners made from unhardened steel, they are much weaker than ones made from hardened steel.

Steel

Steel is the most common construction material for fasteners. It is available in several grades—each demonstrating different performance characteristics—with various surface treatment options. Fasteners are generally made from Grade 2, Grade 5, Grade 8, or alloy steel.

Plastic

Plastic comes in countless formulations, each offering unique advantages and disadvantages that make it suitable for different purposes. It is ideal for use in the manufacture of fasteners as it demonstrates a high strength-to-weight ratio, excellent chemical and corrosion resistance, and low moisture absorption. Some of the plastic options we have available include fiberglass, PTFE, PVC, vinyl, and vulcanized fiber.

In addition to the above material options, our fasteners come with a variety of protective and decorative plating options, including black zinc, brass, bronze, chrome, copper, gold, hot dipped galvanized, nickel, silver plating, tin, zinc, and zinc yellow.

Standard Machine Elements

Many industrial devices, machines, and systems are held together with standard parts. Some of the standard machine elements we offer include:

  • Ball-ended thrust screws
  • Clamping and control units
  • Index plungers
  • Industrial handles
  • Leveling elements
  • Operating elements
  • Single-acting ball-locking pins
  • Spring-loaded ball plungers

Why Choose Standard Fasteners From Associated Fastening?

Our standard fasteners are recognized for their quality and durability. For these reasons, customers throughout a diverse set of industries—including automotive, OEM, and transportation—use them for their applications. With an inventory of up to 500,000 standard fasteners waiting in our facility, we are well-equipped for fast fulfillment once an order is placed.
